I'm Leah Vagedes. I like to go by Leah but don't be confused if you ever hear me being called Katie, that's my middle name and my parents liked Katie but we have this weird family thing where the first girl is named Leah....anyways! I have two siblings; Anna (15) and Zach (11), happily married parents, and a bichon frise (look it up) dog named sparky.
I have never been into academics as much as sports, I love love love playing volleyball as a setter and backside hitter. I was a cheerleader but I will never say that was a sport just a fun thing to do and get in touch with my valleygirl glitter side :) I also ran track as a sprinter and long jumper.
I am going to the University of Cincinnati for Secondary Education in English and integrated Language Arts. This was actually my second option at UC, I first was going for a degree in Architecture and a minor in interior design but decided against it. I love being a Bearcat, my roommate and my neighbors are my best friends I would be lost without them here.
Reflection #1 Standard 1 - Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
Inovlving students into the technology world instead of shying away from it lets your students know that you're not afraid to get more involved and in depth with exploring world issues that students can look up and have their own opinion on. Students will believe that when they go to school that it's a whole different world that they can get lost into and that home is the reality, when you compare real-life events that could have something to do with your students, you connect yourself with them on a better understanding and can relate yourself to your students.
Reflection #2
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness A teacher's hope is always to create a fun environment that his or her students would love to come to class each day. Sometimes in order to make that happen you have to get a little creative. Teacher's should know that to get a studen'ts attention they had to be different. I had one teacher who involved magic tricks into his regular lesson plan as a physics teacher. He could actually tie in those magic tricks with the material that we were going over in class. It amazed me, and by exam time I could recall those cooky magic tricks and remember information. Sometimes all it takes is a visual to get students thinking and relate what they saw with what they remember. Taking pages and pages of notes verbally does not help a student, they need colors and visuals.
Reflection #3
4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright,
intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
Some teachers do not realize that they have to be super careful when they assgin a project that part of it has to be done on a computer. Hopefully with working at a school the school's network has some firewalls to prevent the students from getting into anything that they know they shouldn't be doing. If teacher would like to bring up a video or a website he or she must understand that there are some things that cannot be copyrighted and must be bought so that he or she can have their own version of information to show the students in an appropriate way.
